Registered Nurse (RN), Full-Time, Exempt Job Summary: The Registered Nurse monitors and promotes the health and safety of people supported. This position ensures company compliance with all relevant medical best practices, rules, regulations, and guidelines for the assigned caseload/State. The RN audits program files, assists with quality assurance (QA) processes, provides overall direction to the Vista Care team by mentoring and coaching staff, and supports individuals to develop and maintain healthy lifestyles, independence, and high satisfaction with services and supports.

Duties and Responsibilities

Act as a positive role model for individuals, employees, co‑workers, and management; represent the company professionally in the community and at State/Regional meetings.

Comply with company policies and procedures (Introductory Training Period, Attendance, Workplace Safety, Employee Appearance and Hygiene, Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation, Rights and Grievance, Equal Employment Opportunity, Harassment).

Encourage a structured, health‑oriented living environment.

Treat employees, management, and individuals with dignity and respect, maintaining honest and respectful communication.

Focus on official duties during work hours; contribute to a harmonious work environment and good relationships with co‑workers, management, individuals, outside agencies, and others in contact with the RN.

Maintain frequent communication with Regional/State/Area Directors, Service and Support Directors, and other required stakeholders.

Familiarize with State regulations, quality standards, and contribute to Vista Care’s ongoing regulatory compliance and funder satisfaction.

Assure all employees complete required medication management training within Vista Care and State timelines.

Assist in staff retention strategies, including new training, mentorship programs, etc.

Supervise other nurses or staff as assigned.

Attend resident staffing meetings and other relevant meetings; provide teaching and guidance to all levels of program staff.

Develop knowledge of rules, regulations, and codes for assigned State and locations (Home and Community Based Services, Shared Living, Adult Family Homes, Comprehensive Community Services).

Establish baseline medical care and assessment for all individuals served; routinely assess behavioral and medical needs, recommend medication or treatment modifications.

Acquire expertise in Vista Care’s medication training and client medical record system.

Teach State‑approved medication administration classes for new hires and recertification training within State‑mandated time frames.

Communicate with health and medical professionals daily/weekly to inform them of client status and other pertinent information.

Provide technical assistance to staff regarding medical issues for people supported.

Ensure documentation of all training sessions, including house/clinical meetings.

Assist direct support professionals with health‑related training and arrange specialized training as needed; communicate performance concerns to supervisor.

Monitor overall medical compliance of programs, including compliance with State or Medicaid rules at assigned locations.

Attend staff meetings and required training (Essential Learning Training).

Be available outside standard work hours, including evenings and weekends, to provide assistance to staff regarding medical issues.

Assist with admissions, including assessments, record review, and ensuring appropriate immunizations or communicable disease testing per State requirements.

Provide ongoing record review and serve as a role model for staff in delivering clear statements on expectations and consequences for unhealthy behavior.

Assist with investigations of allegations of mistreatment, abuse, neglect, and exploitation concerning health‑related matters; provide written summaries and recommendations to investigators.

Chart all observations and interactions that may affect the resident’s health; communicate all pertinent information to the supervisor in emergencies through verbal and written reports.

Monitor programs and activities to ensure accessibility, safety, and reporting of safety hazards.

Respond promptly to complaints and concerns.

Respond to emergency situations in a timely and responsible manner; report all such situations to the supervisor, regulatory entities, and within designated time frames.

Monitor medication administration processes for direct support professionals and other certified staff, ensuring compliance with policy, procedures, licensing, and accreditation standards.

Conduct regular review, tracking, and trending of health data in Vista Care’s electronic record system (currently Therap) to provide ongoing training to direct support professionals and identify areas for improvement.

Provide Vista Care management with reports on health/medication trends and corrective training on documentation errors for medication administration and other training as needed.

Ensure program environments improve individuals’ quality of life and increase their independence.

Oversee systems for ordering, disbursement, and disposal of prescribed and over‑the‑counter medications, appropriate medical supplies, and equipment for individuals in services.

Ensure employees are informed of and adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding client PHI.

Qualifications and Experience

Successful graduate with ASN, BSN, or MSN.

Valid RN nursing license to practice in the assigned State.

Prior management experience strongly preferred.

Minimum of 1 year of experience working in human services, preferably with adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, addiction, or related disability programs.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Physical Requirements – Requires repetitive manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination; use of all office equipment; ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds using appropriate body mechanics; ability to remain awake and alert for the duration of each shift; capable of bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, sitting, and walking for periods of time; able to utilize proper body mechanics while assisting with transfer of individuals weighing up to 250 pounds using manual or mechanical lifting devices.

Visual, hearing, and communication requirements – Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, with or without reasonable accommodation; must communicate verbally and in writing with all staff, other professionals, and individuals; must give and receive verbal and written instructions in English.

Work location – Primarily office settings with some time spent in home‑like settings of varying background noise; possible exposure to blood‑borne pathogens if universal precautions are not followed; may require working under stressful conditions and handling emergencies; may involve pressure to meet scheduled appointments and deadlines and manage crisis situations; interaction with individuals who have mental illness or intellectual and developmental disabilities and may be frail, confused, or capable of verbal or physical aggression.

Base Pay Range $75,000.00/yr – $80,000.00/yr
