This position provides custody and control of inmates in a penal institution. Supervises lower-level personnel such as Corrections Lieutenant, Corrections Master Sergeant, Corrections Sergeant and Corrections Cadet.

Qualifications and Experience Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following:

Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR

One year of experience in any field; OR

Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer.

One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service.

Necessary Special Requirements An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current driver's license.

Job Duties

Lead and inspire frontline operations

as the Shift Supervisor, ensuring a safe, secure, and well-coordinated facility at all times.

Safeguard people and property

by delivering proactive, high-quality internal security services.

Promote fairness and accountability

by reviewing disciplinary actions involving inmates and staff with professionalism and sound judgment.

Champion a culture of safety

through regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and job sites to ensure full compliance with fire and safety regulations.

Position-Specific Details Appointment Type : PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.

An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.

This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation This position has a

Special Entrance Rate (SER)

of

$24.64 per hour .

There is also

Premium Pay

for this position with a rate between

$0.50

an hour and

$1.00

an hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.

The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.

IMPORTANT:

Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire.

This is a 24-hour facility.
