Position Description The Manager Operations is responsible for the entire manufacturing plant operations, directing the plant through supervision, sharing information, taking or directing corrective action, and recognizing achievements.
Essential Job Functions
Adhere to and ensure compliance with health and safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in warehouse or production areas.
Adhere to and ensure compliance with food quality and food safety standards and/or Safe Quality Food requirements.
Lead and direct the work of other employees and manage personnel actions including hiring, performance management, and termination.
Provide training, direction and instruction, and conduct performance evaluations.
Guide and train on work standards and expected outcomes.
Accountable for planning and evaluating performance, staff training and development, recruitment, and contribution to pay recommendations.
Direct and coordinate plant activities and maintain budget control for the area of scope.
Develop the team and continuously improve performance by setting clear and challenging goals.
Operate the plant in accordance with corporate policies, customer requirements and approved budgets.
Participate in the development of the annual department budget and strategic long‑term planning.
Communicate plant production‑related requirements and solutions to relevant departments.
Analyze plant results and discuss areas of concern with the management team.
Conduct plant production meetings with employees.
Observe operating departments regularly to ensure quality of production and adherence to sanitation and safety standards.
Ensure fulfillment of customer orders within quality, quantity and cost specifications.
Manage business metrics including yield, labor efficiency and overhead expenses.
Demonstrate leadership to ensure consistent quality of work.
Maintain effective communication of expectations and goals throughout the plant environment.
Develop and communicate business impact with weekly, monthly and quarterly performance reports; present to management.
Ensure compliance with OHSA, environmental regulatory and corporate standards; investigate root causes of non‑compliance.
Develop strategies focused on accident reduction, energy and waste minimization.
Oversee effective deployment of human resources and ensure administration of the collective bargaining agreement, if applicable.
Review SQF annual review checklist with management.
Jointly responsible for site security/food defense and product quality.
Act as key member of the Business Continuity Team: decision making, oversight, and investigation of crisis events.
Represent the company positively at all times.
Act as backup Plant Manager as needed.

Working Conditions
Work schedule: weekdays, weekends, afternoons, evenings, overnight and holidays may be required.
Work environment: fast‑paced production plant with numerous moving parts. Noise level requires hearing protection; temperatures may be very hot or relatively cold. Structured and supervised environment.
Travel Requirements
Travel anticipated: Rarely.
Physical Requirements
Stand or sit regularly.
Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
Lifting 50 lbs. minimum; lift up to 5 lb. multiple times a day.
Carry weight, lift as required.
Walking and moving between stations.
Operate a forklift as required.
Climb stairs/ladders or maintain balance in the plant environment.
Visual/sensory: moderate attention with one or two senses at a time.
Mental stress: pronounced pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy demands.
