Assistant Principal Secretary

Job Summary:
Provides administrative support for the High School Assistant Principal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives and screens telephone calls, visitors and letters. Answers general questions and furnishes information to assist the principal. Routes or answers routine correspondence not requiring the principal's attention.
- Manage office communications in person by greeting and assisting the general public, parents, teachers and students; by phone taking and delivering messages for staff and students, and by fax and e-mail to parents, teachers and liaison officer.
- Schedules substitute teachers and prepares substitute folders with information specific to each teacher.
- Signs subs in and out, records substitute teacher information, and submits sub records weekly.
- Compiles weekly athletic eligibility list and distributes to staff. Answers questions regarding eligibility, prints and sends progress reports.
- Writes detentions and 250's for truancy; maintains the detention list and the attendance offense list.
- Sets up enrollment rooms at the beginning of the school year; compiles and distributes enrollment room lists.
- Records and packs rebinds at the end of the school year.
- Coordinates underclass picture taking; distributes pictures and retakes.
- Types and distributes daily announcements.
- Trains student aides and co-op student.
- Organizes calendar meeting; submits calendar for handbook.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.
Qualifications:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. One-year, prior office experience, experience at the high school level preferred. Proficient computer and document skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Mathematical skills including; addition, subtraction.
