Ujamaa Place is a culturally specific organization dedicated to empowering young African American men facing multiple barriers to stability and self-actualization. We engage these individuals to foster their growth and support them in becoming resilient, responsible, and prosperous members of their community. Our mission is to provide holistic transformation opportunities targeted toward young African American men experiencing inequity at the intersection of race and poverty. Ujamaa Place provides services and supports such as educational opportunities, transitional housing, employment and career development training, wellness services, and programs, as well as criminal justice advocacy. Ujamaa Place is a catalyst for new beginnings and positive transitions. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Program Vision

Develop and implement a long‑term program strategy that advances the organization’s mission and responds to the needs of African American men, including stable housing, useful education and literacy, employment counselling, wellness (mental and physical health).

Lead program design, innovation, and expansion, ensuring culturally relevant and evidence‑informed approaches.

Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy, culture, and decision‑making.

Ensure programs align with organizational values, community priorities, and funder expectations.

Program Oversight & Management

Oversee all program systems and operations, staffing, budgets, and outcomes.Ensure programs address systemic barriers affecting African American men.

Supervise coaches and contractors, and provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development.

Foster a supportive, strengths‑based, and culturally affirming environment for staff and participants.

Ensure programs are delivered with excellence, consistency, and cultural humility.

Develop and maintain participant handbook, program policies, procedures, calendars and quality standards.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, culturally specific organizations, government agencies, and funders.

Represent the organization in community coalitions, advisory groups, and public forums.

Ensure programming is informed by community voice, participant feedback, and lived experience.

Evaluation, Data, & Impact

Oversee program evaluation, data collection, and continuous improvement processes. Manage Salesforce system to assure accurate and meaningful data.

Ensure programs meet or exceed outcome goals and contractual obligations, including grant requirements.

Partner with evaluation staff to analyze data, identify trends, and adjust programming.

Prepare reports for leadership, the board, and funders.

Budget & Resource Management

Develop and manage program budgets in partnership with Finance.

Ensure responsible stewardship of resources and compliance with grant requirements.

Support development with program narratives, outcomes, and grant proposals.

Qualifications Required

5+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit, community‑based, or human services organizations.

Demonstrated experience working with and for African American men, communities, and families.

Strong understanding of racial equity, culturally responsive programming, and trauma‑informed practices.

Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex programs, and drive measurable outcomes.

Excellent communication, relationship‑building, and strategic thinking skills.

Experience managing budgets, grants, and program evaluation processes.

Preferred

Lived experience relevant to the mission.

Master’s degree in social work, public health, public administration, education, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience with restorative practices, workforce development, reentry services, mental health, or youth development.
