Finance Manager

The Position The Finance Manager will oversee day‑to‑day and strategic financial operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and forecasting. This role requires a strong understanding of modified cash basis accounting as used in a professional service firm, as well as the ability to review financial data and ensure accuracy and completeness.
Key Responsibilities
Report directly to the Controller
Manage the monthly and annual close process for modified cash basis financials
Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports and performance metrics
Spearhead annual budget process and reforecasts as needed
Own budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis; provide insight on actual to budget variance and future projections
Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies and procedures, the general ledger and chart of accounts
Coordinate with colleagues in various departments to review and correct financial errors/mispostings resulting from variance analysis and reconciliations
Support external CPA firm during annual review and preparation of partner K1s and firm tax returns
Prepare or review journal entries, expense and office allocations, bank reconciliations and other reconciliations on a monthly basis
Ensure timely preparation and delivery of department level monthly financial reports for firm Directors
Lead and mentor a finance and accounting team of 9
Manage relationships with external parties including bank representations, insurance agents, tax authorities, etc.
Provide ad‑hoc reporting that delivers valuable financial insight to decision makers
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or MBA a plus
7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, as well as experience in a supervisory or management role
Experience working in Professional Services Firm preferred with prior public accounting a plus
Solid experience with modified cash basis accounting and preparation of financial statements
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with BI reporting software a plus
Experience with Aderant Expert Sierra preferred; experience with AS400/LMS a plus
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to work independently, multitask, and ensure team delivers high quality work on time
Salary Range: $150,000 - $170,000 USD
This position is considered full‑time and therefore qualifies for benefits including 401(k) retirement savings plan, medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
