About the SUNY Achievement Center The SUNY Achievement Center is a newly launched initiative by SUNY's Office of Enrollment Management and NYCPS, dedicated to supporting all high school students within a New York City educational campus in their postsecondary journey. As a SUNY employee, the College and Career Advisor will collaborate closely with school staff to enhance the college-going and career-ready efforts across multiple high schools, providing personalized guidance and resources to ensure student success.
Specific Duties
Assist high school students with developing and executing a personalized postsecondary plan that aligns with their interests, goals, and needs.
Ensure proactive support for student subpopulations who face additional challenges in navigating career and college pathways.
Collaborate with students to identify, assess, and apply to postsecondary institutions, opportunity programs, work-based learning opportunities, financial aid, and scholarships according to these plans.
Organize school site-wide and small group sessions on career exploration, skills readiness, college preparation, and network building, collaborating with school-based staff to schedule and promote these sessions, ensuring maximum effectiveness.
Utilize technology, systems, resources, and tools to provide high-quality college and career advising, including SUNY-specific platforms and resources.
Track and report timely, accurate data on student progress, performance, and participation.
Monitor and report students' application progress and career and college outcomes.
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal (school-based) and external partnerships to drive access, impact, and success for students.
Develop and engage professional networks relevant to career and college pathways (both internal and external partnerships).
Stay informed on industry best practices to support advising.
Job Requirements Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse student populations, families, and school staff.
Commitment to diversity and inclusion and ability to work with diverse populations.
Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to prioritize time and activities, demonstrating initiative and managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
Capacity to adapt advising strategies to accommodate the varied needs of students from multiple schools within a shared campus environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in college and career advising.
Effective presentation skills.
Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with NYCPS's graduation requirements, and postsecondary landscape.
Understanding of the SUNY public school system, graduation requirements, and postsecondary landscape.
Experience with data tracking and reporting platforms relevant to student progress and outcomes.
Additional Information
Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is NOT available for this position.
Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The range for this position is $58,000-$65,000 annually.
State Title: Academic Advisor (SL-3) and is part of the United University Professions Union.
Excellent Benefit Package which includes: NYS health insurance, free dental and vision coverage, competitive retirement options, tuition assistance, parental leave at full pay, and generous vacation, sick, and holiday time. Generous amount of time off: 13 days of paid holidays per year; 15 days of vacation and 15 days of sick time accrued for the first year of employment. Then increases thereafter. This position will be based in New York City.
