Job Description The Network Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability and integrity of all Health System data communication, including voice, video, wireless, and network services. This role involves planning, designing, and developing Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) across the organization. Additionally, the Network Engineer will assist with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, and support of all network hardware, software, and communication links. The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software network problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide team and end user training where required.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
Assist co-workers in assessing near- and long-term network capacity needs.
Respond to emergency network outages following business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including configurations, network mapping, processes, and service records.
Adhere to policies, procedures, and training plans related to network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
Maintain LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other network-related hardware.
Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and industry standards to stay updated on the latest advancements.
Oversee new installations, upgrades, and maintenance of network equipment, hardware, and software.
Configure networks to ensure smooth and reliable operations that support business objectives and processes.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues as needed.
Respond to incoming alerts, notifications, tickets, and calls regarding network connectivity problems.
Ensure network connectivity across all devices and systems.
Manage network asset inventory, maintaining accurate documentation and technical specifications.
Regularly monitor, test, and report on network performance with detailed analytics.
Participate in the implementation and maintenance of network security solutions.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members as needed.
Qualifications Associate’s degree in Information Systems or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
Preferred
An understanding of network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices
Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, software, protocols, Windows platform, Cisco IOS, Arista EoS 802.xxx wireless protocols
Ability to operate network component analyzers, scanners, and testers showing competence with testing tools
Hardware troubleshooting experience
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required
Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language
Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
Strong customer service orientation
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods of time
Ability to lift and install equipment into network equipment racks
Available for after hours on call support
