Senior Engineer – Sr. Wheels & Tires Engineer
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for a Senior Engineer to join the Chassis Engineering Design Team.

The Position The Sr. Wheels & Tires Engineer will lead design, development, and validation of wheel and tire systems for U.S. SUV, pickup truck, and off‑road vehicles to create a robust, high‑performance architecture. The engineer will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration, meet customer requirements, and achieve durability and reliability goals.
What You Will Do
Design and Development:
Lead end‑to‑end engineering of wheel and tire systems from concept through production. Create 3D models and 2D drawings in CATIA V5, including TPMS sensor integration.
Specialty Off‑Road Systems:
Develop beadlock wheels, mud‑terrain and all‑terrain tire packages, run‑flat inserts, and central tire inflation/TPMS solutions.
Validation and Testing:
Define validation plans, lead test plan creation, and support vehicle‑level testing for ride and handling, including durability and fatigue tests.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with FMVSS, SAE, and other applicable standards; manage documentation for homologation.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration:
Work with vehicle dynamics, suspension, brake, body, and electrical teams to integrate wheel and tire systems.
Supplier Coordination:
Liaise with OEM and Tier 1 suppliers, develop specifications, and manage supplier deliverables.
Project Leadership:
Manage projects on new vehicle programs, track milestones, conduct design reviews, and provide status updates.
Mentorship:
Mentor junior engineers.
Travel:
Travel up to 20 % of the time.
What You Will Bring to the Role
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, automotive, or related engineering.
7+ years of professional chassis and suspension experience with wheel and tire focus.
Experience with pickup trucks, SUVs, or off‑road vehicles.
Experience with electric or hybrid suspension systems.
Strong knowledge of vehicle ride, handling, and NVH.
Proficiency in CATIA V5 and other CAD tools.
Experience with PDM/PLM systems such as ENOVIA or Windchill.
Excellent communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in mechanical or automotive engineering.
Proficiency in CAE tools (ANSYS, Nastran, MATLAB/Simulink).
Professional Engineer license or Six Sigma certification.
Experience launching vehicle programs and project management.
