SACA Food Shelf is a food shelter and thrift store that has served Columbia Heights and surrounding communities for almost 50 years. We’re at an exciting place in our journey with plans to move into a building that is three times larger than our current size in Spring 2026. Our volunteers are the heart of SACA. 93% of the work that happens at SACA is done by thoughtful and dedicated volunteers. We need a program manager who is committed to providing a positive volunteer experience, maintaining and improving our systems, and helping us prepare for our organization's transition to our new building.

Position Summary The Program Manager provides leadership and oversight for SACA’s core programs, including volunteer engagement, warehouse operations, and community partnerships. This role ensures programs are coordinated efficiently, data is accurate, and all services reflect SACA’s mission of supporting neighbors with dignity and respect. The Program Manager directly supervises the SACA Delivers Program Coordinator and the Warehouse Coordinator, as well as volunteers and interns.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Oversight & Leadership
Provide direct supervision and strategic guidance to the SACA Delivers Program Coordinator and Warehouse Coordinator, ensuring programs are well-coordinated and meet organizational goals.
Oversee program data collection, recordkeeping, and reporting to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Participate in strategic planning, goal setting, and implementation of organizational initiatives.
Contribute to management meetings, including agenda preparation, tracking progress, and ensuring completion of action items.
Collaborate with leadership to assess community needs, improve service delivery, and strengthen organizational impact.
Volunteer Management & Coordination
Lead the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and retention of volunteers across SACA’s programs.
Grow the volunteer base through partnerships with schools, faith communities, civic groups, and corporate partners.
Manage volunteer postings on platforms such as VolunteerMatch, Hands On TC, and Signup Genius.
Provide orientation and training to volunteers, introducing them to SACA’s mission, policies, and culture.
Maintain an accurate and dynamic volunteer schedule; communicate updates or changes promptly.
Track volunteer service hours and engagement data using Bloomerang CRM (experience preferred).
Gather volunteer feedback through surveys and conversations to inform ongoing improvement.
Plan and execute volunteer recognition events, including the annual appreciation luncheon and Volunteer Appreciation Week.
Oversee volunteers completing court-ordered community service, ensuring compliance and documentation.
Write letters of recommendation and references for volunteers as needed.
Provide bilingual (English/Spanish) communication and translation for volunteers and clients when appropriate.
Warehouse Oversight
Supervise the Warehouse Coordinator, ensuring efficient warehouse operations, including donation intake, inventory management, food ordering, and distribution.
Oversee food procurement processes, ensuring adequate inventory levels to meet pantry and delivery program needs.
Monitor safety, cleanliness, and compliance with food handling standards in all warehouse areas.
Support the Warehouse Coordinator in managing relationships with food donors, vendors, and delivery partners.
Collaborate with the Warehouse Coordinator and SACA Delivers Coordinator to align food ordering, menu planning, and inventory control.
Step in to assist with warehouse activities during peak periods or staff shortages, as needed.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
Represent SACA at community events, tabling opportunities, and partner meetings to promote awareness and engagement.
Maintain strong relationships with local agencies, donors, and community partners.
Oversee SACA’s partnership with Allina’s Center for Mental Health and Addiction Care Pantry, ensuring smooth coordination, client follow-up, and accurate recordkeeping.
Work collaboratively with community partners to identify outreach opportunities and referral pathways for clients.
Data Management & Administrative Support
Ensure all program, volunteer, and client data is accurately maintained and regularly updated.
Oversee use of CRM and other databases for reporting and communication.
Maintain confidentiality of client, volunteer, and donor information.
Supervise interns and other program support staff, providing mentorship, training, and performance feedback.
Qualifications & Skills
Fluent in Spanish (strongly preferred)
Experience in volunteer management, preferably within a nonprofit or community-based organization
Experience with CRM systems, particularly Bloomerang (preferred)
Strong data management, organizational, and administrative skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Experience supervising staff and leading with empathy, accountability, and professionalism
Comfort working in both administrative and warehouse settings
Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and SACA’s mission of community service
Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events or program needs
Work Environment This position operates primarily in an office and warehouse environment, requiring frequent interaction with staff, volunteers, and community members. The role involves occasional moderate physical activity, including assisting with warehouse operations or community events as needed.
