Salary Range: $63,289 - $63,289

Job Description The General Counsel’s Office (GCO) in the New York County District Attorney’s Office (DANY) has an immediate opening for a Administrative Supervisor. The GCO advises DANY staff on a variety of civil and criminal issues and manages a docket of civil, criminal, and administrative actions, including, among other matters, Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, subpoenas related to outside civil litigation, and post-conviction psychiatric litigation. In this position, the Administrative Supervisor will supervise the professional staff of the GCO, including paralegals, investigative analysts, and other professional staff, and will also support attorneys in the GCO with civil discovery proceedings, document review, and other tasks.

Responsibilities

Supervise professional staff in overall workstreams, and especially in all workstreams requiring document production, including but not limited to FOIL requests, inter-agency records requests, responding to subpoenas and/or civil discovery demands.

Supervise and administer the GCO’s online OpenRecords platform for incoming FOIL requests.

Handle individual FOIL requests and document productions, both independently and with GCO attorneys.

Assist in hiring of professional staff candidates.

Maintain the GCO’s databases and case tracking systems and supervise entry of data by professional staff.

Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming inquiries or records requests received by the GCO via mail or email.

Conduct preliminary research into the status of criminal cases for which the GCO has received a FOIL request, subpoena, or other requests for records.

Gather and maintain case files needed to respond to document requests, including coordinating with the DANY Records Department and tracking delivery and receipt of requested cases.

Answer GCO line as needed and assist callers with inquiries.

Provide administrative supervision and perform analytical and other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of administrative or relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements/Skills

Five years paralegal or criminal justice experience.

Familiarity with the office and New York courts a plus.

Experience with large-scale document or records production.

Proficiency in e-discovery programs.

Leadership skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, Lexis/Nexis and/or Westlaw.

Ability to multitask and work both in a team-oriented environment and independently as required.

Superior organizational, time management, and communication skills.

Strong attention to detail, self-motivator and able to manage multiple assignments.

Ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff, court representatives, and members of the public.

Proficiency in working with electronic documents, videos, and other electronic items, especially in high volumes, and/or willingness and ability to learn.

Hours/Shift

Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Current office employees:

To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.

Looking for candidates that could commit to two (2) years to the hiring unit.

Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or

Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
