Cloud /Network Engineer
to spearhead cloud initiatives for the United States Coast Guard at C5ISC in Alexandria, VA. In this role, you'll architect the cloud infrastructure that powers critical Coast Guard operations, driving innovation that directly impacts national security.

Primary Responsibilities We are seeking a highly capable Senior Cloud/Network Engineer with expertise in AWS, Azure, and strong networking background. This individual will be responsible for developing in a scalable cloud‑native solutions, and ensuring best practices across architecture, networking, deployment, and security. This is a hands‑on technical role that requires rolling up your sleeves to architect, code, debug, and mentor.
As a Cloud network engineer, you will have deep experience designing and securing cloud‑based network architecture, with hands‑on expertise in F5, Palo Alto Networks / Versa Networks SD‑WAN and security solutions. This role is essential to ensuring secure, scalable, and resilient connectivity across hybrid and multi‑cloud environments. You’ll work closely with cloud engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and program leadership to drive continuous improvement and deliver value to the mission.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop scalable, resilient, and secure cloud solutions across AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform
Create reference architectures, design patterns, and technical standards for cloud implementations
Design, implement, and maintain secure cloud network architectures in AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments
Integrate cloud networks with on‑premises DoD infrastructure using VPNs, Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, and SD‑WAN
Implement network segmentation, Zero Trust principles, and policy‑based access controls
Automate network provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues using tools like CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, and packet capture utilities
Evaluate emerging cloud technologies and assess their potential impact on organizational goals
Assess legacy systems and design modernization strategies including containerization and microservices
Design secure cloud architectures implementing zero‑trust principles and defense‑in‑depth strategies
Ensure compliance with industry standards (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI‑DSS, etc.) and regulatory requirements
Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including development, operations, security, and product management
Present architectural designs and recommendations to executive leadership
Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience in an IT‑discipline.
Excellent customer service skills, with experience working in a customer‑facing position for a minimum of 4 years.
Experience with AWS, Azure, cloud hosting, networking, DevSecOps and various cloud Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings
Strong experience with Palo Alto Networks or Versa Networks.
DoD Thunderdome experience is a plus.
Certifications such as Palo Alto Certified Network Engineer, Versa Certified SD‑WAN Engineer, F5‑CTS, AWS Advanced Networking, or Azure Network Engineer Associate.
Support AWS Cloud hosted applications (including deployments, patches, security checks, and maintenance).
Provide support and troubleshoot AWS deployed applications.
Provide guidance in developing and optimizing administrative processes and procedures.
Work with SMEs and Security Team in defining secure‑based cloud architecture.
Create and update standard operating procedures, and operational processes.
Windows Server creation, configuration, upgrade, migration, and patching.
Clearance: This position requires candidates to have an active Public Trust and will accept up to TS/SCI.
Certifications
Candidate must, at a minimum, have one of these certifications:
AWS Certified Advanced Networking, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Developer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect, Versa Certified SD‑WAN Engineer, F5‑CTS, or Azure Network Engineer Associate, Palo Alto Certified Network Engineer.
