EXTENDED DAY ASSISTANT
FLSA: Part-Time Non-Exempt
Primary Function Under the direction of the school principal, the applicant is responsible for the care and instruction of after‑school children. Work hours are Monday‑Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with possible early‑dismissal days throughout each month when staff is needed from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing in a manner consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Abide by Catholic principles in professional and private life and govern conduct in strict accordance with Catholic morals, demonstrating complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
Develop and help build the school’s faith community by demonstrating willingness to participate in and plan school religious and service activities.
Assist with supervision of parent helpers and ensure compliance with safe‑environment and other school requirements.
Assist with playground supervision as necessary.
Communicate effectively with students, helping to organize classroom learning, materials, and field trips to motivate student learning.
Assist with a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self‑direction and positive self‑image and motivates learning.
Help maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
At all times demonstrate professional responsibility in all tasks, displaying sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Fingerprint clearance and completion of Protecting Children class required (see Background Screening Clearinghouse Education and Awareness website).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; self‑starter, well‑organized, team player.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a school environment.
Ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check.
Professional bearing with clean, neat personal appearance.
High School Graduate or GED.
Physical/Mental Requirements Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability, and ability to lift as required in a normal classroom environment.
Required Activities Walking; sitting; standing; stooping; reaching; talking; handling hearing; carrying; and keyboarding.
Required Experience Junior IC
