Job Summary
Forsyth County's Tax Administration is seeking a Sr. GIS Technician to maintain cadastral base map layers in the Tax Assessor GIS, supporting property tax assessment and collection. The role involves research, data integration, GIS editing, and providing assistance to GIS technicians and the public.
Responsibilities
Conduct detailed research and interpretation of documents to determine land parcel characteristics and ownership.
Integrate changes into existing GIS base map layers and the Assessment system.
Perform GIS edits following standard procedures with high accuracy and within prescribed time frames.
Lead and advise GIS technicians on performance and task assignments.
Execute higher‑level GIS editing, analysis, and support for critical or complicated data layers.
Manage special projects and provide knowledgeable assistance regarding GIS data to office staff, professionals, and the public.
Train new and existing workers on edit and entry procedures, system updates, and best practices.
Write production reports, assign, prioritize, and monitor work to ensure accuracy.
Assist in planning, coordinating and implementing work assignments and special projects.
Resolve problems and make appropriate corrections, including neighborhood delineation, annexations, zoning petitions, road name changes, and microfilming of old map books.
Maintain instructional manuals and prepare comprehensive map sets for the department and the public.
Qualifications
Associate's degree with courses in math, geography, paralegal, drafting, or related area.
Four years of experience in property mapping using ArcGIS or comparable GIS software.
Strong knowledge of terminology, methods, and forms used in land title records; standard practices, materials, and equipment for land survey drafting.
Knowledge of geographical areas and subdivisions in the county.
Ability to compute areas, interpret deeds, and transfer data to maps.
Customer service orientation and ability to communicate courteously with the public and employees.
Leadership skills: ability to coordinate, monitor, and evaluate work of others; explain instructions and assist others.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred: completion of IAAO Course 101 and 600; additional ESRI courses or seminars.
Higher education level may substitute for all or part of experience requirements.
