POSITION OVERVIEW
The Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) is a behavioral health professional who assists patients with substance use and mental health disorders. Working under the direction of the Recovery Support Supervisor and in collaboration with clinical, nursing, and medical staff, the RSS supports the delivery of individual patient care through a focus on safety and engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor patient activities and conduct safety and security checks throughout the shift.
Complete documentation, including rounds sheets, therapeutic activity notes, and end‑of‑shift reports, and record patient behavior.
Assist in direct patient care, ensuring patient safety and interacting therapeutically.
Assist with patients’ daily schedules and de‑escalation as needed.
Process patient belongings for new admissions and during visitations, including search and delivery.
Help patients complete a Patient Satisfaction Survey and pack belongings for discharge.
Monitor compliance with rules and schedules at Business Center/Workflex and at Wellness Center/Fitness Center.
Partner with the clinical team to conduct welcoming New Patient Orientation when applicable.
Manage visitation program activities: greeting, sign‑in, orientation, search, and belongings processing.
Apply principles of 12‑Step Programs, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support patients with Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and Mental Health (MH) Disorders.
Assist in the facilitation and presentation of the RCA Clinical Curriculum with corresponding notes in the electronic medical records system.
Transport patients and/or belongings as needed.
Maintain confidentiality and exhibit excellent customer‑relations skills with all contacts.
Perform any other job‑related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of one year of experience as an RSS, Behavioral Health Technician (BHT), Mental Health Technician (MHT), or equivalent direct‑care worker in behavioral health and/or substance‑use‑disorder treatment (preferred).
Certification as a BHT, CADC, CRADC, CRS, CPRS, CFRS, or eligible (preferred).
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
Proficiency with required technology hardware, systems, and tools (training provided).
Familiarity with behavior modification and 12‑step modalities.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record (if applicable).
Demonstrated customer‑service orientation and commitment to satisfying internal and external customers.
Strong problem‑solving skills, including identifying issues, involving others, and conducting appropriate analysis.
Effective communication skills across a broad range of styles and audiences.
Flexibility and openness to change and new information, with the ability to adapt work methods.
Time‑management skills: utilize time efficiently, focus on priorities, and multitask.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Follows organizational cybersecurity policies, including acceptable use, password management, and multi‑factor authentication requirements. Immediately reports suspected security incidents, unauthorized access, or data breaches in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements. Maintains strict confidentiality of PHI and adheres to the principle of least privilege, accessing only the minimum necessary data required to perform job functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT This role operates in a professional office environment. It routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The typical noise level is moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing duties, the employee must talk or listen, use hands to handle objects, walk and stand constantly, occasionally sit, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift or move objects up to 50 lbs. Visual requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and the ability to adjust focus.
TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day, with some out‑of‑area and overnight travel possible.
