Business Manager for the Planning and Development Services Department (PDS) , you’ll be at the heart of strategic financial leadership driving innovation, efficiency and excellence.
In this pivotal role, you will :
Champion fiscal strategy
aligned with the PDS Director
and County Board of Commissioners
Lead high-level financial planning and analysis , forecasting and process improvements that elevate service delivery
Manage a $15 million general fund , overseeing budget development, procurement, contracting and revenue collection
Provide transparent, actionable insights
to decision-makers that shape the future of our community
Inspire and guide a talented team
of financial professionals while serving as a key member of the department’s leadership team

About Our Team Wake County’s Planning and Development Services Department (PDS) is at the forefront of shaping one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation. With a dedicated team of 100 professionals and a $15 million annual budget, we ensure compliance with local and state development regulations while delivering exceptional service to residents and businesses. PDS operates through four dynamic divisions: Administration, Planning, Building Permitting & Inspections, Watershed Management.
The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field
Five years of experience in finance, budgeting, policy or management analysis, including one year of supervisory experience
Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
Advanced education in Business Administration, Finance or Economics and Public Administration
Five or more years successfully managing Budget and Finance toward achieving business goals for medium to large companies or government institutions

Advanced knowledge of enterprise systems and Microsoft Office suite programs
Ability to manipulate large sets of data as well as excellent insight into the key drivers
