OT Engineer
St Paul Park Refinery – Marathon Petroleum Corporation
Position Summary The OT Engineer in Refining Digital Operations for the St. Paul Park Refinery will provide operational and technical support for the St. Paul Park refinery Operational Technology (OT) server and network environments. The successful candidate must understand business requirements and translate these requirements into solutions. The position must work collaboratively with the Process Control Engineer Team to seek solutions to problems, champion compliance and change efforts that result in improved reliability and security of infrastructure services, and always follow the refinery personnel safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct regular monitoring of infrastructure components and systems to identify performance issues or anomalies. Analyze collected data, establish performance baselines, and create reports to identify trends and potential areas of improvement. Collaborate with senior engineers to implement performance tuning strategies and optimize system resources for better efficiency.
Provide technical support to users, troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware and software issues, and engage in vendor technical support as needed. Apply predefined procedures for system tuning and optimization using IT Service Management practices, and document support requests and troubleshooting steps.
Develop and implement reporting frameworks to track and analyze infrastructure performance and utilization metrics; create or leverage existing dashboards and visualizations for monitoring.
Contribute to the design and configuration of hardware and software systems, considering scalability, performance, and security aspects. Build and deploy infrastructure components, ensuring proper configuration and integration.
Actively participate in knowledge sharing activities, such as team meetings, presentations, or workshops, and collaborate with team members to identify gaps in knowledge and propose solutions to improve documentation and information sharing.
Perform root‑cause analysis of issues in collaboration with the process owner, tracking, documenting and reporting identified patterns.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure uninterrupted and optimum system performance.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders, aligning the understanding of requirements with build teams for solution delivery, and manage the definition of business processes to measure, analyze, improve and control the process in partnership with business and development teams.
Configure switches, routers, firewalls, Layer 2/Layer 3 networks.
Identify and elevate cybersecurity events, manage security policies, and conduct risk assessment.
Audit systems and ensure software licensing accuracy.
Support data historian, database maintenance, backups, antivirus and allow‑listing administration.
Resolve problems in a manufacturing environment with off‑hours support.
Work within Agile frameworks to support iterative development, ensuring stories are well‑defined, prioritized, and aligned with business objectives.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience.
2+ years of relevant experience.
