Unit Coordinator-ED-FT role at
Kingman Regional Medical Center . Department: Nursing. Reports to: Department Director. Exempt Status: No. Position Title: Health Unit Coordinator. Position Code: UC-xxxx. Safety Sensitive: YES. This description reflects the essential duties and qualifications for the role as currently defined by the employer. Responsibilities
Receptionist activities and clerical duties required to coordinate patient care, facilitating daily unit operations. Represent the unit and provide prompt, polished customer service; act as a resource for patients, families, staff and physicians. Initiate discharge folders, patient portal information, and patient information code card upon admission (for all inpatient units). Assess unit environment and opportunities for improvements; survey patient rooms daily for suction and oxygen; assess high-risk readmission patients to ensure appropriate steps are followed. Coordinate patients’ daily schedule (tests, exams, x-rays, procedures, discharge appointments, transportation, follow-up appointments). Maintain and organize patient medical records; perform 24-hour “chart checks”; ensure orders and consults are correctly entered. Use electronic medical record for data entry and monitoring of accuracy and completeness. Monitor Service Provider Workspace hourly to communicate stat orders and unacknowledged orders to nursing staff. Ensure readmission risk patients have Post Hospital Care Clinic follow-up documented on discharge instructions. Receive and record emergent verbal and telephone orders from medical staff for diagnostic laboratory, non-invasive radiology tests, and nutrition services. Proficiently utilize office equipment (phone, computer, fax, Vocera, printers, copier, scanner, etc.). Complete requisition forms to maintain adequate supply levels; reconcile supply orders and maintain cost-effective processes. Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), provide continuous visual and proximal contact with patients, including in-room observation, basic comfort services, maintaining a safe environment, accompanying patients during transportation for tests/procedures, and documentation on appropriate forms. Support maintenance of a safe, therapeutic environment with a focus on prevention of self-harm and injury; notify clinical staff of changes in patient status or appearance. Complete mobility training and stay up to date on required training/orientation. Always stay with the patient, even in the event of an emergency; maintain timely and accurate documentation of patient behaviors and actions. Comply with all Federal, State, organizational, and departmental policies and procedures. Patient and Family Experience
Respond to patient needs promptly, answer call lights, and request staff assistance as needed. Inform patient or family if nursing staff is unavailable; quickly locate and alert nursing staff to requests. Maintain a positive image of the nursing staff through teamwork and proactive communication with nursing staff and physicians. Perform room orientation and instruct on communication board usage for new admissions/transfers. Maintain patient/family education materials; protect patient confidentiality in communications. Distribute hydration aids and comfort items as needed; provide one-on-one observation for confused or high-risk patients; assist with feeding and mobility as appropriate. Respect patient rights, privacy, and dignity where feasible. Physician Experience
Establish and maintain rapport with physicians; welcome and orient new physicians to the unit. Introduce physicians to nursing staff; assist with CPOE and troubleshoot issues as needed. Manage physician consultations and charts; serve as liaison between physicians and nurses when needed. Camera Tech
Operate video monitor equipment, manage room displays, and monitor for requested changes; report monitoring changes to nursing staff. Document and sign monitoring forms; identify behaviors that may precipitate a fall and respond appropriately to monitor gaps. Qualifications

BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross Licensure:
None Skills and Knowledge: Familiarity with computers, office equipment and medical terminology. Strong customer service skills with the ability to anticipate and respond to clinical staff needs and prioritize multiple demands. Effective communication with a diverse group; ability to diffuse situations and promote a positive patient care environment. Demonstrates critical thinking, problem solving, organizational skills, prioritization, and crisis responsiveness. Preferences High School graduate or equivalent; or higher education; or at least 1 year of work experience. A NAHUC certification is desirable. Experience: Previous experience in healthcare or customer service setting preferred. Successful completion of medical terminology course preferred. Position Requirements
Exposure Category II: possible but not routine exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs; communicate with diverse populations; be exposed to patients with infectious diseases; work in a stressful environment. Ability to sit/stand for extended periods and assist with movement of an adult patient weighing up to 300 lbs. Acknowledgement
