You will assist individuals in various situations, such as navigating prenuptial agreements and attending court hearings for divorce, alimony/spousal support, and child support. Responsibilities
Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients
Maintain client files to ensure they are properly organized and up to date
Create legal documents such as pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgements and orders for a high volume of cases
Manage the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings when needed
Communicate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process
Represent clients in court proceedings as needed
Advocate on behalf of clients by understanding their needs, effectively analyzing the situation, and forming a strategy for a plan of action
Represent clients in hearings, mediations, and trials
Direct and supervise the work of support staff
Draft pleadings and orders
Prepare equitable distribution charts
Conduct monthly file review meetings
Monitor retainer balances and communicate replenishment needs to the billing specialist
Communicate with the client to understand their goal and develop a corresponding strategy to meet those goals
Represent clients in appeals when necessary
Qualifications
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary
Ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case
Candidate must have a license to practice law in either West Virginia or Ohio and be willing to obtain the other state licensure upon being offered employment
Prior family law experience is preferred but not required
Excellent oral communication skills
Ability to stay calm under pressure
Empathy for clients with a genuine desire to improve their lives
Juris Doctor Degree
Great negotiation skills
Willingness to travel to other areas of the state for hearings and meetings
Compensation: $80,000 + Bonus
