Job Summary Deputy Compliance Officer

– Leads efforts to foster an inclusive and equitable workplace by investigating concerns, evaluating practices, delivering impactful training, developing innovative programs, conducting meaningful research, and closely monitoring the County’s diversity, equal opportunity, and civil rights initiatives.

Essential Job Functions Investigations Assess, investigate, and analyze complaints under the County Policy of Equity (CPOE); recommend designation to the County Equity Oversight Panel (CEOP); develop investigative plans consistent with federal and state laws and county policies. Identify, gather, and analyze evidence; conduct interviews and prepare summaries; maintain investigative files; and provide updates to administrative entities.

Mediation Review complaints of retaliation, discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment, and inappropriate conduct for mediation suitability. Maintain mediation files, conduct training, facilitate constructive dialogue, and help parties reach mutually agreeable solutions.

Equal Employment Opportunity Compliance Investigate complaints, analyze workforce data, prepare reports, develop required forms with the EEOC and DOJ, conduct focus groups, review policies for alignment with laws, and comply with OEP and civil rights legislation.

Requirements OPTION I:

Four (4) years of experience in an advisory capacity – independently conducting administrative investigations or mediations, or implementing equal‑employment opportunity programs aligned with federal regulations. One year may be substituted by a bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Administration, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Human Resources, Liberal Arts, English, or equivalent.

OPTION II:

Juris Doctor degree and one (1) year of experience in an advisory capacity – independently conducting administrative investigations or mediations, or implementing equal‑employment opportunity programs aligned with federal regulations.

Withhold:

No withhold will be allowed; required experience must be fully met by the last day of filing and clearly indicated on the application.

License:

Valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method.

Physical Class:

Class II Light – light lifting up to 10 lb, occasional bending, stooping, and squatting.

Exam and Application Process Applications are accepted only online. Examinees must complete Part I (multiple‑choice/simulation, 80%) and Part II (writing, 20%) with a passing score of 70 % or higher on each part. Successful applicants are placed on an eligible list for six months.

Testing accommodations can be requested during application. Veterans may qualify for a 10 % credit.
