OVERVIEW Assists with the implementation of scheduled activities and special events (for example, arts, crafts, swimming, table games, cooking classes, homework, and field trips) for the after school and evening programs at John Valenzuela Youth Center. Position may from time-to-time be stressful and require a high demand of performance. May perform other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ability to lead and supervise small and large groups
Assists with educational and recreational activities, such as outdoor/indoor games, computer tutoring, and homework as part of the daily schedule
Maintains a clean and neat facility appearance daily
Assists with recruitment, registration, intake, and follow-up services for youth participants or potential participants
Provides supervision of youth at all times, ensuring a safe, healthful environment
Observes center and program regulations
Assists with gathering data for reports and grants related to the program
Effectively communicates with diverse cultural and ethnic groups, including individuals disabilities
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Suitable work experience may be considered as transferable skills in order to meet minimum requirements of the position and will be considered by the Executive Director of Human Resources.
High School Diploma or GED
Excellent organization skills
6 months of paid, internship, or volunteer experience working with children ages 5 through 18
Ability to organize activities for children ages 5 through 18
Good communication skills (appropriate style, grammar, and tone)
REGULATORY
Must be at least 18 years of age
Valid driver license, proof of insurance, and 39-month motor vehicle report
Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and FBI National Criminal Records History Report (employer paid)
Pass pre-employment drug screen (includes marijuana, regardless of recreational use laws) (employer paid)
TB screening or chest X-ray
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate Degree in social services or related field
Additional duration of directly-related experience working with youth in an after school program
Bilingual in English and Spanish, verbal and written
Experience with programs serving high-risk youth
