The Pharmacy Technician II, SPS, performs technical functions of specialty pharmacy case management and drug distribution for specialty pharmacy services under the direct supervision of a technician III, licensed pharmacist and assists pharmacists in the supervision of technicians and student externs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Work in various areas of specialty pharmacy as assigned, communicate the needs of the areas throughout the day to the appropriate pharmacy technicians and pharmacist(s)
Maintain an organized drug distribution section of the pharmacy to maintain an efficient workflow system
Maintain an organized and proactive approach when processing prescriptions by actively communicating issues to the pharmacist as needed.
Assist in ordering and maintenance of inventory
Ensure phone calls are answered in a timely manner and transferred appropriately
Maintain access to miscellaneous payer portals for express submission of prior authorizations /or and pre-certifications
Perform pharmacy tasks related to patient care and/or inventory team to maintain an efficient workflow
Assist in pro‑actively advising healthcare team to most appropriate therapy option and route for access (e.g. coverage, medication assistance, formulary alternative)
Perform complex billing activities for cross‑benefit drugs and coordinate patient care through direct communication with provider and/or nursing teams.
Complete pharmacy tasks as assigned
Interact effectively with technicians, externs, pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and other providers to maintain continuous and efficient workflow
Communicate effectively with patients under stressful situations
Resolve conflicts by identifying and involving the appropriate health care professionals
Attend all meetings as directed by supervisor
Assist the pharmacy technician III in training new staff as well as provide feedback for performance evaluation of technicians and student externs as directed
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Illinois.
Any one of the following that equals six (6) months:
Successful completion of a formal training program in technical, non‑professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.
Work experience in technical, non‑professional pharmaceutical procedures and practices.
One (1) year (12 months) of work experience as a pharmacy technician.
Preferred Qualifications:
One year of experience related to specialty pharmacy.
