This position is responsible for general facility maintenance (cleaning, organizing, stocking); event setup and tear‑downs, and minor allowable repairs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in conversion of the Facility and set‑up for events which can include but limited to (sporting events, concerts, commencements, fairs, banquets, exhibitions, conventions). This includes setting up stages and laying down the basketball floor. Heavy lifting is required at times.
Perform custodial/janitorial work in Facility. This includes routine cleaning and upkeep of the building including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, washing windows, and cleaning bathrooms.
Repair and maintain Venues & Events equipment.
Responsible for internal building security, property, and safety of all equipment during assigned shift (not to be confused with event security).
Ensure the rooms, and or facility, are secure at the end of the day.
Manage all sub‑contractors providing event related services to include scheduling labor calls, ensuring sub‑contractors are adhering to UIC Venues and Events policies and procedures and that they are representing the values and goals of UIC.
Be responsible for the enforcement of building policies (security and safety) and regulations and follow through on actions regarding possible violations.
Recruit, hire, train, supervise and motivate student employees.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
Must know how arenas operate, how shows are managed, safety protocols for large scale events, stagehand rules & regulations, HVAC terminology.
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with staff and clients, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to set clear goals, establish plans, and effectively prioritize, organize, and complete tasks.
Ability to work effectively and professionally with staff, the public, and external partners or constituency groups.
Ability to analyze situations and develop effective solutions to complex problems.
Demonstrate supervisory and administrative skills.
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment to analyze and resolve a variety of issues or problems.
