The Supervisor of Inpatient Coding Operations is responsible for supervising the remote Inpatient coding team. The team is responsible for identifying all diagnoses and procedures on records, maintaining coding credentials, and strictly adhering to coding rules and regulations. This position is also responsible for accurately assigning and entering ICD‑10‑CM/PCS into 3M. The Supervisor provides guidance and direction to ensure services rendered are coded within expected timeframes. Ensures policies and procedures are followed effectively and timely addresses barriers as they arise; this is accomplished through written and verbal communications and ongoing monitoring of medical records, productivity, and quality measurements. The Supervisor conducts employee rounding and yearly employee evaluations. In addition, they are responsible for coaching, corrective actions, recruiting, and termination. The Supervisor reports to the Senior Manager of Coding Operations and participates in improvement projects as needed. Performs medical coding audits and assists with Denials if necessary. Applicants must receive a minimum score of 85% on the coding assessment.

Oversees facility medical coding for Inpatient Coding

Supervision of the medical coding team’s daily workflow

Maintains employee schedules

Staff’s point of contact for questions related to position and duties

Monitors staff compliance with all governmental, departmental, and hospital policies and procedures

Coaches staff who are not meeting departmental goals such as quality and productivity

Conducts corrective actions and terminations when necessary

Conducts employee rounding on staff

Minimum Qualifications Education: Associates degree in health information management required. Bachelor’s degree in health information management or related field preferred. 15 years coding experience in lieu of education.

Licensure, Certification Registration: RHIT, RHIA CCS or CPC required.

Experience Five years of experience coding Inpatient records using ICD‑10‑CM/PCS. Expert knowledge in DRG including MS‑DRG and APR‑DRG Classification Systems.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with professional healthcare providers. Demonstrates expertise in coding quality. Demonstrates a clear understanding of the revenue cycle in its entirety. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑growth, fast‑paced environment. Innovative and a leader in change management.
