About the Role The Vet Technician plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians by providing high‑quality medical care to animals in a clinical setting. The position involves performing technical tasks such as collecting samples, administering medications, and assisting during surgeries to ensure animal well‑being and recovery. The Vet Technician also educates pet owners on proper animal care, treatment plans, and preventive health measures, fostering a compassionate and informative environment. Attention to detail and strong observational skills are essential to monitor animal health and respond promptly to any changes or emergencies.
Responsibilities
Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and medical procedures by preparing equipment and restraining animals safely.
Collect and process laboratory samples such as blood, urine, and tissue for diagnostic testing.
Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments under the supervision of a veterinarian.
Monitor and record vital signs and behavior of animals before, during, and after treatment to detect any abnormalities.
Maintain accurate medical records and update patient histories to ensure continuity of care.
Clean and sterilize surgical instruments, treatment areas, and animal housing to uphold hygiene standards.
Communicate effectively with the veterinary team regarding patient care and progress.
Care for hospitalized patients.
Assist with urgent care appointments.
Assist with Technician appointments.
Effectively communicate and educate clients.
Qualifications
Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT, LVT, or RVT) preferred.
Minimum 2+ years of experience required.
Ability to lift animals and equipment (up to 50 lbs) and stand for long periods.
Team player with exceptional client service and communication skills, attention to detail with a positive and compassionate attitude.
Compassionate and calm under pressure, especially in emergency situations.
Skills The required skills enable the Vet Technician to perform clinical tasks accurately and safely, such as collecting samples and assisting in surgeries. Strong communication skills are used daily to explain treatment plans and care instructions to pet owners, ensuring they understand and comply with veterinary recommendations. Attention to detail and observational skills help in monitoring animal health and identifying any signs of distress or complications promptly. Preferred skills, such as proficiency with veterinary software and advanced clinical certifications, enhance efficiency and allow the Vet Technician to contribute to specialized procedures and improved patient outcomes.
