JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide essential support to veterinarians in caring for and treating animals.
Greet clients and patients warmly and professionally.
Collect and record patient history, vitals and pertinent information.
Assist during examinations and surgeries.
Monitor and care for pets during postoperative recovery.
Collect samples for laboratory testing.
Administer medications and vaccines as prescribed.
Monitor the health and well-being of animal patients.
Educate pet owners on proper animal care procedures.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
Assist with inventory management.
Prepare animals and equipment for medical procedures.
Perform diagnostic imaging (such as radiographs or ultrasounds.)
Ensure that the clinical environment is clean, organized and safe.
Demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail and compassion in all duties.
Participate in ongoing continuing education (CE) opportunities to stay informed about advancements in veterinary medicine and client services.
Attend staff meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology and common medical procedures.
Ability to safely restrain animals of various sizes and temperaments.
Proficiency in administering medications, vaccines and treatments as directed by a veterinarian.
Familiarity with laboratory procedures, diagnostic imaging and medical equipment.
Excellent communication skills and ability to maintain accurate medical records.
Compassionate, dependable and detail oriented with a commitment to animal welfare.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast paced environment and work well with others.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to approximately 40 lbs.
Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Office and Veterinary Practice software.
