Pathology Support Specialist – Intermountain Health
Base pay range: $18.00/hr – $27.00/hr.
Job Description Pathology Support Specialists are key support personnel for pathologists and the Pathology department. Responsibilities include filing, pulling, and tracking pathology slides, blocks, and materials, preparing cases and reports for tumor conferences, basic office administrative tasks, and frequent communication with physicians and pathologists for specialty testing and add‑on requests.

Shift details: Monday–Friday, 9am–5:30pm
Essential Functions
File, pull, and track pathology slides, blocks, and materials; prepare cases and reports for tumor conferences; perform basic office administrative tasks.
Facilitate ordering and processing of specialty testing requests – including molecular and cytogenetic studies – and distribute results and report addenda.
Operate multiple laboratory and pathology computer systems, register accession and transcribe pathology reports.
Communicate effectively, deescalating stressful situations calmly and professionally.
Identify and troubleshoot day‑to‑day issues in the Pathology department, document errors, and take appropriate action to solve problems.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Ability to work in a team environment under stressful situations
Ability to work on‑call shifts as required by the department
Self‑motivated, able to work independently
Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and nights
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a healthcare setting
Medical transcription or coding experience
Experience with laboratory information systems
Adherence to personal protective equipment requirements (gloves, lab coats, face shields, masks)
Physical Requirements
Good vision to see and read labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
Ability to verbally communicate quickly and accurately during emergency situations.
Manual dexterity to manipulate delicate equipment with precision; frequent computer use and typing.
Capacity to lift, transfer, bend, retrieve, and carry supplies and equipment of varying weights, including heavy items.
Ability to walk, assist with transporting/ambulating patients, and push/pull gurneys and portable equipment.
Expected to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
For driving positions: ability to operate a vehicle, reading signs and traffic signals.
Location Intermountain Health St. George Regional Hospital, St. George, Utah.
Scheduled weekly hours: 40 hours.
