Role Overview The Coil Shop Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and management of the coil shop employees. This position involves hiring, training, retaining, equipping, and supervising coil shop employees to ensure timely and efficient production of heat transfer coils according to design specifications. The supervisor ensures that employees work safely and efficiently to maximize productivity, minimize waste, and meet customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Compliance and Leadership
Read, understand, and enforce safety programs and policies of RAE Corporation.
Lead by example, commit to safe work practices, and coach employees on safety behavior.
Correct safety hazards and respond to employee concerns regarding hazards in their work area.
Understand and comply with OSHA CFR 1910 regulations.
Employee Management and Development
Interview job applicants and advise management on candidate selection.
Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback to employees.
Oversee employee training programs for new hires, ensuring proper resources and feedback for development.
Discipline employees as needed and document actions.
Enforce company policy fairly and resolve employee issues.
Operational Management
Keep track of the production schedule and ensure department productivity.
Work cooperatively with other departments to meet customer expectations.
Advise maintenance of equipment or building repairs needed.
Oversee housekeeping and maintenance of the department.
Technical Oversight
Read and understand engineering drawings and bills of material.
Enforce manufacturing instructions.
Run coil plant operations within the budgeted labor standards.
General Responsibilities
Complete other tasks as directed by the Plant Manager.
Comply with government regulations, laws, company policies, and procedures.
Report injuries and work with the EHS manager to ensure safety and compliance.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment in a supervisory or higher-level management role.
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft software and basic computer skills.
Ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills, effective communication, and multitasking abilities.
Basic math skills and ability to recognize standard angles.
Certificates, Licenses, or Training
OSHA 10-hour certification
Supervisor training
Interaction with Others Reports to the Plant Manager and oversees the entire coil plant. Must work closely with other departments and be able to accurately receive and understand instructions. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential for success in this role.
Working Environment Work is performed in a heavy industrial production area, where the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, and high noise levels. The employee may also be exposed to extreme temperatures in both winter and summer. Stress can be caused by pressure to meet deadlines and product quality standards. Occasional long hours may be required.
