Health is all about people - where they live, learn, work and play. The Family Health Services Clinics of the Health and Social Services Department is currently recruiting for Medical Assistant. The mission of Family Health Services (FHS) is to provide superior, comprehensive primary medical and dental care to improve the health and quality of life of Solano County residents. FHS is committed to the uninsured, low‑income, and medically underserved as a federally qualified health center (FQHC). We offer four conveniently located clinics in Fairfield, Vacaville, and Vallejo and mobile medical and dental vans. The outpatient primary care clinics see patients five days a week, with some weekend and evening hours offered.

The Position As a Medical Assistant you will provide technical support services to physicians and/or other licensed medical professionals in a primary care or family health care clinic. You will assist medical staff by performing routine preliminary preparatory and follow‑up tasks prior to and after the patient examination/visit. The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill full‑time and part‑time regular, limited‑term or extra‑help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

Experience and Education Requirements

Experience: No experience required.

Education: Graduation from high school, GED, or high school proficiency certificate.

Possession of a valid medical assistant certificate issued by an accredited college or institution.

Curriculum must have included "hands‑on" (classroom/lab) training in all of the following:

Laboratory drawing of blood

Collection of other specimens

Venipuncture

Injection administration

Performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), and/or X‑ray (CXR) procedures including chest X‑rays/extremities.

Certifications from the following organizations do not meet our requirements: American Medical Association (AMA), California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

Covid‑19 Vaccine Requirements for Employment Workers in health care settings are required to be vaccinated per the California Department of Public Health Order (August 5, 2021). Individuals assigned to the clinics must show proof of vaccination. Those with a religious belief or medical reason that prevents them from taking the vaccine must submit a request to Human Resources well in advance of the first date of employment.

Qualified applicants may be invited for further examination, including initial screening, mandatory information meeting, supplemental questionnaire, written/practical exam, oral board exam, or combinations thereof. A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the selection process.

All potential new hires will be subject to a background and reference check after contingent job offer is accepted. Hiring restrictions may apply to California Public Sector Pension Plan retirees.

Veterans Preference Points: Eligible veterans with at least 181 consecutive days of active duty and an honorable or general discharge under honorable conditions will receive five points added to their combined score.
