Registered Nurse Oncology
Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Shift: Full-Time | Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm (No Weekends, No Holidays)
About the Role When a patient walks through the doors of a cancer clinic, they’re not just seeking treatment; they’re looking for hope, reassurance, and a caring partner. As an Oncology RN at Novant Health’s Cancer Clinic, you walk alongside patients during one of the most important fights of their lives.
Responsibilities
Triage calls as needed and document the information in the EMR.
Explain all processes to patients in plain language and utilize teach‑back to ensure understanding.
Collaborate with other departments.
Apply critical thinking and a willingness to learn throughout patient care.
Triage patients upon arrival to the clinic.
Engage in dialogues with patients and chosen support systems to identify what’s important to them and incorporate their preferences and norms into individualized care plans.
Show compassion for the patient population.
Maintain a positive work environment with health work‑life balance.
Qualifications
Registered Nurse licensure in NC or a compact state.
Nursing degree from an accredited program (BSN preferred).
Experience in oncology or acute care is a plus.
Willingness to earn an Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) within 30 months.
High‑school diploma or GED required; a four‑year degree preferred.
Graduate of an accredited nursing school required.
If your RN license has been inactive, retired, or lapsed for five years or more, a board‑approved refresher course must be completed prior to reactivation; you must apply for reinstatement within one year of the refresher.
Minimum 1–2 years of nursing experience, preferably in oncology.
Current RN licensure in the applicable state.
Oncology Nursing Certification (OCN) within 30 months of employment.
Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care, displays excellent verbal and written communication skills, possesses knowledge of NMG/FMC policies and standards, and engages in self‑directed learning through orientation, certification, continuing education, and other programs.
Possesses clinical assessment skills relevant to hematology or oncology patients and families, and has knowledge of the purpose and use of medications in cancer treatment.
