Summary Safely operate locomotive including (a) proper performance of beginning and ending shift duties with respect to locomotive maintenance; (b) switching and spotting railcars including ensuring proper length and distance of railcars to be loaded; (c) pulling in/setting off railcars for loading and pickup; and (d) ensuring both person and team adherence to American Association of Railroads safety policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Inspect locomotives to ensure adequate fuel, sand, water, and other required supplies are properly stocked and ready for use and provide report of fuel levels for locomotives to management
Confirm all procedure manuals, logbooks, and other necessary documents are in the operator's cab and available for use
Confirm all safety equipment required by the American Association of Railroads is in place and ready for use
Test locomotives including brakes (certified A1 brake test), horns, etc. to ensure locomotive is mechanically sound and in good working order
Visually inspect locomotive for damage or defects.
Power down locomotives
Tie down locomotives securely using handbrakes and chocks
Ensure gate to yard/campus is closed and locked
Maintain cleanliness of locomotives including removing all trash.
Secondary
Properly spot loading pads to allow efficient loading of inventory
Build train, including assembling sections of railcars and by coupling and de-coupling individual railcars according to schedule and placing on designated outbound track for CSX pickup
Perform A1 certified brake test on outbound; Switch cars between maintenance tracks and loading pads as necessary
Alert management to defective railcars and coordinate with Titan for such defective railcars to be removed for repair
Coordinate with Titan when cars are moved onto or off of Titan controlled tracks
Work in other Departments upon manager request
Perform other duties as assigned by Rail Supervisor and Managers from other departments
Terary
Perform in leadership role while operating locomotive including ensuring all American Association of Railroads safety policies and procedures are followed regarding operation of the locomotive and all aspects of railcar movement
Verbally correct policy violations and/or poor performance of team members immediately
Report all incidents of verbal correction, policy violations, and poor performance to management promptly on day of incident
Immediately alert management to any mechanical, operational, or safety issues.
Skills
Ability to speak, read, write, and otherwise effectively communicate in English
Ability to interpret and follow verbal and written instructions in an efficient manner
Ability to work effectively in both independent and team environments; comfortable assuming leadership role in team environments
Knowledge of and ability to perform basic locomotive maintenance
Education & Experience
HS Diploma/G.E.D

2-5 years of direct experience
