Summary of Job Duties Orthopedic Tech assists physicians in the application and management of casts and braces, provides instruction and assistance to resident physicians in cast, splint, and brace application, gives instruction on proper care of casts, braces, etc., to patients. Also provides instructions to rotating medical students, and assists with orders and maintains an adequate stock of orthopedic supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

High school Diploma or GED, plus one (1) year of direct patient care experience

Preferred Qualifications

Orthopedic Tech experience

Medical Assistant Certification

Responsibilities

Provides professional and competent assistance to physicians with the application and management of casts for orthopedic patients

Educates patients regarding casts, splints, or braces following application

Collects and records patients’ medical history and acquires patient vital signs. Advises patients regarding treatment, medication, and specific physician instructions

Collects lab samples and completes documentation for submission to the lab

Monitors inventory of and obtains necessary supplies and/or equipment for patient care in the orthopedic unit

Performs other duties as assigned
