BS Promise Him a working applying computational engineering methods and tools in support of the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex, an Arnold AFB, TN. The engineer will be a member of the Engineering Solutions branch that performs cutting‑edge technology development to support the National Defense Strategy for the United States Air Force.

Job Summary The successful candidate will use Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools to analyze AEDC test facility issues, assess concepts, predict performance, and troubleshoot ground test infrastructure systems for air and space vehicles.

Job Duties

Support software development for computational modeling and simulation (M&S) tools.

Support the development and application of computational models and simulations, coupled with high‑performance computing, to solve complex physical problems in engineering analysis and design.

Ensure that M&S tools meet the needs for predicting performance of complex hardware systems and troubleshoot issues when tools do not capture the systems accurately.

Analyze and identify deficiencies in existing CFD codes; formulate, implement, and validate improvements to overcome those deficiencies.

Support the development of new computational approaches in fluid‑thermal chemistry, turbulence, numerical algorithms, and code‑processing.

Support the expansion of CFD capabilities into the hypersonic regime through new algorithms and tools that account for combustion and high‑speed chemical reactions required to simulate hypersonic vehicle flowfields and high‑temperature facilities.

Perform preparation, execution, interpretation, and review of aerodynamic computations using CFD codes for analysis of aerodynamic facilities.

Engage with colleagues to push for technological advances, facility improvements, advanced diagnostics, and complex problem solutions.

Wearing company issued PPE is a condition of employment.

Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Civil Engineering with 0‑4 years of project and/or research experience in developing and applying computational engineering methods and tools.

Computational software development skills using FORTRAN, C, C++, Python, or other relevant languages.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.

U.S. Citizenship is required for employment at AEDC due to Air Force security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in one of the listed degrees.

Education in fundamental engineering and science, and advanced knowledge of mathematics, algorithms, and computer languages.

Ability to work in a team developing/applied complex CFD models.

Familiarity with Linux operating systems.

Demonstrated technical knowledge of developing computational engineering methods and applying CFD tools to engineering problems.

Experience in developing and modeling compressible, real gas, and/or chemically‑reacting flows in subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flow regimes with detailed knowledge of thermodynamics, combustion, and multidisciplinary modeling.

A combination of code development and application skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Active Department of Defense Secret Clearance.
