Position Title
Ironworker
Overview Ironworkers install iron girders and columns to construct buildings and other structures. It is a physically demanding job, and workers must be comfortable with great heights. Workers read, study, and interpret job specifications, plans, and blueprints. They use basic math skills including geometry and trigonometry to make calculations for work. Workers can complete difficult job tasks according to job specifications with minimal or no supervision.
Essential Functions
Read, study, and interpret job specifications, plans, and blueprints to gain a clear understanding of work to be done.
Select the type and size of materials needed for each job.
Inspect the work site to determine the presence of obstructions that will affect structural stability.
Apply advanced rigging and material handling skills.
Rig, direct lifts, and stage material, parts, and equipment.
Fit and erect structural steel members according to specifications and drawings.
Follow ALL safety precautions when climbing or working from elevated heights.
Burn and cut with Oxy‑Fuel torch to close part tolerances with minimal grinding cleanup.
Weld structural steel members.
Position Requirements
Minimum three years’ experience in Ironworking, rigging, and flagging.
NCCER Ironworker Certification strongly desired.
Must pass the in‑house Ironworker Assessment Test.
Preferred Education and Experienceh3>
High School or GED preferred but not required.
Trade School program preferred but not required.
