Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Field/Shop)
Location:
Dinwiddie, VA – requires travel throughout Virginia to job sites.
Pay:
$25.00/hr to $35.00/hr, based on experience and certifications.
Education Requirement HS Diploma or GED preferred with basic reading and writing skills.
Experience Requirement 3+ years as a field mechanic working primarily on construction equipment.
Special Skills CDL A (plus). Ability to work outdoors year round. Mechanical knowledge of construction equipment.
Travel Requirement Open to travel throughout VA; must be able to travel to VA job sites when needed.
Basic Requirements
Valid driver's license.
Minimum CDL B required.
3+ years preferred experience as a heavy equipment mechanic in construction industry.
Test repaired equipment to insure operating efficiency.
Essential Functions
Inspecting and lubricating heavy construction equipment in shop and at construction job sites.
Repair troubleshooting of heavy trucks / construction equipment (e.g., loaders, dozers, cranes, backhoes).
Test repaired equipment to insure operating efficiency.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems.
Repair hydraulic systems.
Assist in dismantling / putting together cranes.
Make preventative maintenance checks and inspections.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds from ground level to waist level.
Continuous standing and walking throughout shift.
Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation tasks with both hands; acceptable corrected vision and hearing.
Must be able to climb ladders / steps on equipment to access areas to be repaired.
Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and crawl.
Must work in dirty, greasy, noisy, cold, hot, and humid conditions.
