About the Role We are seeking a skilled residential carpenter with proven experience sourcing, building, and installing cabinets in kitchens and bathrooms. The ideal candidate is hands‑on from material selection through finish, comfortable working under existing countertops, and able to match paint or stain to existing millwork for a seamless look.
Key Responsibilities
Cabinet Box Fabrication:
Build new cabinet boxes to spec (frameless or face‑frame), ensuring square, plumb, and level assemblies.
Face Frame & Hardware Reattachment:
Reattach/fit face frames, doors, and drawers; install/adjust hinges, slides, pulls/knobs; verify smooth operation and consistent reveals.
Installation Under Existing Countertops:
Safely remove/replace and install cabinet boxes beneath existing countertops without damaging counters, backsplashes, or adjacent finishes.
Sourcing & Purchasing:
Identify, price, and procure cabinet‑grade materials (plywood/MDF/solid wood, face‑frame stock, hardware, adhesives, fasteners) and finishing supplies; manage receipts and budgets.
Color/Stain Matching:
Mix and match stains or tinted finishes to blend new work with existing cabinetry; perform sample panels and customer approvals.
Cabinet Painting:
Prep (clean/degloss/sand), prime, and paint cabinets using brush/spray techniques; achieve durable, professional finishes with minimal overspray and consistent sheen.
Plans & Specs:
Read/interpret drawings, field measurements, and project scopes; verify dimensions and produce cut lists.
Quality & Safety:
Maintain high craftsmanship standards; follow jobsite safety protocols (PPE, dust control, tool safety).
Customer Communication:
Coordinate schedules, set expectations on lead times and finish outcomes, and maintain a clean work area.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
3+ years in residential cabinetry/carpentry with hands‑on cabinet box building and installation.
Tools & Techniques:
Proficiency with table saws, routers, pocket‑hole systems, clamps, squares, planers, spray equipment, and finishing methods.
Under‑Counter Installs:
Demonstrated ability to install cabinet boxes under existing countertops (stone/solid‑surface/laminate).
Finish Skills:
Proven color/stain matching and cabinet painting experience.
Materials & Purchasing:
Ability to source, compare, and purchase appropriate materials and hardware within budget.
Fit & Finish:
Strong attention to detail for reveals, alignment, scribe work, and seamless integrations with existing millwork.
Driving & Travel:
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel to jobsites in North San Diego County.
Work Eligibility:
Authorized to work in the U.S.; ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical jobsite tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with
soft‑close hardware ,
European concealed hinges , and
drawer slide systems
(undermount/side‑mount).
Familiarity with
Cabinet Vision
or similar layout software; ability to create simple shop drawings.
Knowledge of substrate selection (plywood vs. MDF vs. solid wood) and finish systems (lacquer, conversion varnish, waterborne).
Experience coordinating with countertop installers and painters/finishers.
