Truck & Equipment Mechanic
Department / Reports To
Reports To: Operations Manager
Location & Travel Primary Work Location: Company shop
Travel frequent trips to active job sites for field service using a company service truck
Role Overview The Truck & Equipment Mechanic performs routine preventive maintenance and minor-to-moderate repairs on company vehicles, trailers, and construction equipment—both in the shop and on the jobsite. The role supports safe, reliable operations by executing scheduled PMs, troubleshooting issues, completing quality repairs, and documenting work to company standards. The mechanic models integrity, safety, respect, and reliability in every interaction.
Key Responsibilities

Own safe work habits; follow OSHA/DOT safety practices, uses jack stands, wheel chocks, and appropriate PPE.
Maintain clean, orderly, hazard-free shop and service truck; keep jobsite work areas organized.
Execute PM schedules on pickups, DOT trucks, trailers, and construction equipment.
Perform inspections not limited to; fluid & filter services; tires and tracks, lubrication; torque checks; battery testing; belt, chain & track care.
Identify emerging issues during PM and recommend corrective actions.
Repairs (Minor to Moderate)
Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues; test/adjust controls to spec.
Repair & replace common components not limited to brakes, cooling, fuel, driveline, hydraulic hoses & cylinders; replace wear parts.
Perform light fabrication and field-safe welding as needed.
Escalate major repairs or specialty diagnostics to vendors per direction.
Field Service / Jobsite Support
Respond to jobsite service calls on company equipment to stabilize equipment, diagnose quickly, and complete efficient field repairs to minimize downtime.
Communicate ETA and repair status to the Operations Manager and impacted team; operate service truck, fuel/DEF, and stock spill-response kits in service truck.
Shop Management
Maintain an organized service-truck inventory; stage parts; manage cores/warranties.
Keep tool calibrations and diagnostic equipment in good order; report losses/damage promptly.
Track & record PMs, repairs, labor hours, parts, meter readings, and notes in company systems .
Communicate clearly with supervisors, operators, and teammates to coordinate work and equipment availability.
Team Support
Assist field crews as needed; support equipment mobilization, load-securement checks, and seasonal fleet changeovers.
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required
High school diploma or equivalent; 3+ years’ experience maintaining light/heavy trucks and construction equipment.
Working knowledge of diesel/gas engines, hydraulics, trailers, small engines, and basic electrical diagnosis using a multimeter & scan tool.
Proficiency with hand & power tools and precision measuring instruments; ability to read service manuals, wiring & hydraulic schematics, and parts diagrams.
Clean driver’s license and driving record; CDL preferred.
Physical ability to lift/move up to 50lbs. occasionally; 8 shifts; sit, stand, kneel, climb, crouch, and work indoors & outdoors year-round. Occasional overtime.
Strong safety mindset; dependable attendance; accurate documentation.
Ability to work under varying site and weather conditions.
Skills & Competencies
Preventive maintenance planning and execution; systematic troubleshooting under time pressure.
Clear, respectful communication with field leaders, drivers/operators, and vendors.
Organization: parts staging, tool control, and documentation accuracy.
Problem-solving and sound judgment balancing cost, schedule, and quality.
Reliability: shows up prepared, follows through, and supports the team to hit milestones.

Pay: From $24.00 per hour
