Work Schedule : 8 a.m. to 5:30 pm Monday-Thursday. 8 a.m. to 12:00 pm on Friday. However, adjustments in schedule or additional hours may be required to complete duties. Friday afternoon and Saturday clinic are scheduled on a voluntary basis.

POSITION SUMMARY The Staff Physician works as part of the care team as licensed independent practitioners who are responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for patients with a specific focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and quality outcomes. Staff Physicians perform a variety of direct patient services including assessment, diagnosis, implementation of treatment, evaluation, and monitoring the general practice management plan for clinic patients. Staff Physicians perform these functions in collaboration with a Mid-Level Providers in a primary health care setting. Staff Physicians are involved in continuous quality improvement practices and measures as set by Mainline Health Systems, Inc. and in which the practice focus is based on a Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides primary medical care by caring for all patients in accordance with the physician’s medical specialty.

Develops a plan of care for each patient, including: complete medical history, physician examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral, including hospitalization where necessary, order and interpret lab and diagnostic imaging as deemed necessary.

Stresses the importance of preventative health care measures.

Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and radiological testing, in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner.

Confers with consulting physicians, nurses, patients, and patient’s families concerning treatment and care of patients.

Refers those cases, which require specialist services, but maintains responsibility, assuring that continuity of care is provided.

Attends all medical staff meetings, monthly clinic meetings, quarterly provider meetings, and participates in the community health center’s QI program.

Performs other necessary duties as required by MHSI to meet the goals of providing quality, healthcare.

Participates in daily team huddles and communicates concerns or necessary information to the care team.

Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment modalities and explains treatment to patients, and families. All providers may write prescriptions in accordance with MHSI policy.

Teaches and counsels patients and families.

Consults with other healthcare team members as necessary.

Formulates, initiates, and monitors patient management plans using clinical protocols and best practice.

Renders emergency care and treatment, including but not limited to, advanced cardiac life support, administering IV fluids, administering medications, and treatment of injuries, including suturing of uncomplicated lacerations.

Maintains all patient records to comply with required standards, reviews records regularly, and obtains physician counter signatures where necessary. This requires all charts and reports to be locked by 30 days, but with a goal of having charts locked within 3 days.

Serve as part of the care team; following and implementing workflows that support and sustain MHSI Patient Centered Medical Home model of care.

Willingness to attend and/or complete continuing education related to this position and/or any other topics as deemed necessary to MHSI.

Completion of continual job training processes set forth by Mainline Health Systems, Inc.

Maintains safety-infection measures and supervises clinical settings.

Observe all safety/infection control policies and procedures and attends safety/infection control committee training as required.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Staff Physician reports to, is supervised by and evaluated by the DoO/COO.

EVALUATION The evaluation of work performance will be ongoing and will be carried out by the DoO/COO. It will include specific duties and responsibilities of this position description plus employee attitude and general working behavior. Formal evaluation will be performed annually but may be initiated at other times by the COO and/or CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from an accredited medical school with a degree of Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy.

Completion of a residency program.

Board eligible/certified in specialty.

License to practice medicine in the State of Arkansas.

The ability to relate with warmth and effectiveness to the patients and other healthcare providers of the community health center.

Must be qualified in BLS and ACLS techniques.

Ability and willingness to serve on the active medical staff of local hospitals.

Must be able to read and write English.

Computer skills with capabilities to utilize Excel spreadsheets, graphs, and Word documents preferred.

Ability to learn and utilize electronic record keeping systems such as electronic medical record required.

The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS Continuing Professional Education must be obtained and documented annually in accordance with MHSI’s Continuing Professional Education and Arkansas licensing requirements.
