About the Role We’re seeking a dedicated inpatient Physical Therapist to join our team of highly skilled professionals. Our therapists specialize in treating patients with acute neurological, orthopedic, cardiac, and multi-system conditions across the acute care continuum. Therapists must balance early mobilization with medical stability, navigate discharge planning, and collaborate closely with the medical team to ensure safe, effective, and timely care.

Position Summary Under the supervision of the manager and working within their scope of practice as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Physical Therapist I assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs that improve or restore physical function, alleviate pain and prevent dysfunction in patients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and health status from injury, disease or other causes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Care Examination

Examines patient using appropriate testing methods and instrumentation, records and interprets findings, and identifies patient needs.

Formulates a detailed assessment based upon findings of the examination.

Develops treatment plan and patient outcomes with input from the patient, family, and other health professionals, ensuring the plan is functional, time‐based, and measurable.

Treatment Planning and Intervention

Safely and effectively implements the treatment intervention, applying sound clinical judgment.

Engages patients in motivation and cooperation throughout treatment.

Provides patient/family education during therapy and in preparation for discharge.

Conducts ongoing assessments and revises treatment intervention, goals, and outcomes as appropriate.

Discharge Planning

Initiates discharge planning, incorporating patient/family input, and participates in multidisciplinary patient care planning.

Consults with other allied health professionals as needed.

Transfers patient to nursing or other staff when physical therapy services are no longer required.

Documents discharge summary per department policy.

Patient Care Documentation

Maintains thorough and accurate medical record documentation in accordance with department policy.

Documents initial evaluation, daily treatment notes, reassessments, and discharge summaries per standards.

Productivity / Statistics

Meets department standards for productivity.

Delegates tasks to support staff when appropriate.

Completes daily statistics by the end of the day per department policy.

Assists in quality improvement initiatives and data collection.

Training, Education, and Information Sharing

Attends internal and external educational programs and reads professional journals to enhance skills and outcomes.

Shares knowledge and skills with co‑workers.

Career Development

Develops and maintains physical therapy skills per the Lahey Rehabilitation Services Career Ladder.

Organizational Requirements

Adheres to confidentiality policy, guiding principles, mission statement, and departmental policies.

Demonstrates competence and commitment to customer service standards.

Participates in quality improvement and mandatory education.

Performs additional duties as needed or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: BS Physical Therapy from an accredited program.

Licensure: Active MA Physical Therapy license or candidates with submitted and accepted BY EXAMINATION ONLY application.

Certification: American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Knowledge of Physical Therapy theory and practice.

Critical judgment and thinking in assessment and record maintenance.

Effective oral and written communication of medical information.

Knowledge of Physical Therapy services, facilities, and equipment.

Ability to assess individual patient needs and maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.

Ability to manage confidential information with independent judgment.
