Academy for Young Minds (AYM) , powered by Gersh, is seeking an experienced
Physical Therapist
to join our team in one of our state‑of‑the‑art classrooms in Long Island City, Queens. AYM is a private school for learners on the Autism Spectrum, ages 5-15 in classroom settings of 6-10 students. This is a full‑time, 12‑month school calendar position.
The primary purpose of the school
Physical Therapist
will be to work with students with disabilities and serious health impairments, creating and carrying out treatment plans, evaluating needs of students, screening students who may be appropriate candidates for physical therapy services, making environmental modifications and working with staff to manage physical needs.
Evaluates the student’s ability and formulates the student’s profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews.
Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence‑based intervention.
Implements individual and group treatment for Physical Therapy.
Develops and presents therapeutic activities to benefit special education students in the least restrictive environment.
Reviewing clinical records of students receiving Physical Therapy for completeness of data.
Maintaining attendance and anecdotal records for students receiving Physical Therapy.
Participating in multidisciplinary and parent conferences to discuss student progress, as well as offering recommendations for specific therapy programs relating to both individuals and groups of students.
Consulting with school and supervisory staff on matters relating to Physical Therapy including instruction on therapeutic intervention, appropriate use of therapeutic equipment, methods, and instruction; and student’s current level of function.
Consulting with parents/guardians regarding treatment goals, specialized therapeutic equipment, and other recommendations to enhance the student’s functional ability within the classroom and home setting.
Ordering supplies and equipment as needed to carry out Physical Therapy program and maintaining ongoing inventory of these materials.
Valid State NYS Physical Therapy license from the New York State Office of Professions.
Masters or Doctoral degree from a CAPTE‑accredited program.
Please note, this position will work with both our Long Island City and our Brooklyn locations.
