Minnesota Council of Nonprofits
Uniting Distant Stars (UDS)
is a nonprofit dedicated to educating and empowering young people in Liberia, West Africa, through education and vocational training skills. Since 2013, we’ve helped over 400 youth gain the knowledge and tools to succeed in a country with limited job opportunities.
We are a working board. As a small but mighty nonprofit, our board members don’t just govern—they do. Whether it’s reviewing grant applications, planning fundraising events, or connecting directly with partners in the US or Liberia, our board members are actively involved in advancing UDS. We need people ready to roll up their sleeves.
UDS is at an exciting growth phase, but we’re still a lean organization. Our board members are doers who take ownership of outcomes. If you’re looking for a board position that’s primarily advisory or ceremonial, this isn’t the right fit. However, if you’re energized by the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of Liberian youth while building something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you.
You can learn from the following alumni how learning skills from UDS transformed their lives:
Alumni Testimonial: Harris Beyan Found His Purpose By Becoming An Electrician — Uniting Distant Stars
Alumni Testimonial: Odell Gbehngeh Plans to Succeed With Her Business — Uniting Distant Stars
Alumni Testimonial: Theophilus N Dobson Jr.’s Dream to Build a Power Plant — Uniting Distant Stars

Hands-on committee work - Lead or support Finance or Fundraising initiatives (not just oversight)
