General Purpose Under indirect supervision, provides direct resident care to individuals with physical disabilities and/or functional limitations in clinic, inpatient, outpatient, and outreach programs. Plans therapy programs, directs and assists residents with exercises and use of wheelchairs and other devices, evaluates resident progress, educates residents and families in appropriate physical therapy methods, and leads the work of other therapists.
Responsibilities
Provides direct resident care in clinic, inpatient, outpatient, and outreach settings.
Plans neuromusculoskeletal therapy programs as prescribed by physicians, including posture, gait, range of motion, muscle testing, sensory testing, specific extremity and spinal segmental motion, biomechanical analysis of functional activities, orthotic analysis (if trained), ergonomic analysis, and other relevant assessments.
Administers appropriate physical agents (electrotherapy, sound energy, heat/cold therapy, hydrotherapy, JOBST compression) following physician protocols and residents' medical histories.
Directs and assists residents with active and passive exercises, muscle re‑education, gait and functional training using pulleys, weights, steps, and inclined surfaces.
Evaluates, records, and reports on residents' progress for review by the rehabilitative team.
Supervises PTAs in accordance with state guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
BS Degree in Physical Therapy.
Current license in the state of practice.
Certification and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specialization (if applicable).
Organized and detailed in work performance.
Good communication skills with excellent self‑discipline and patience.
Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
Compliance with Residents’ Rights and Facility Policies and Procedures.
