Job Summary Performs complex ground maintenance tasks to ensure the upkeep of university grounds and related areas.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Plants trees, shrubs, flowers, and grass; trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls using clippers and edging tools; prunes shrubs and hedges to shape and improve growth; and rakes and removes leaves.

Cleans drainage ditches and culverts; hauls debris to dumping area.

Cut lawns using hand mowers, power mowers, power equipment, or tractors equipped with attachments.

Picks up trash and debris from campus grounds, streets, and walks.

Sprays lawns, shrubs, beds, and trees with herbicides.

Assists in athletic grounds duties as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or general education degree (GED); One-year experience and/or training relating to grounds or landscape work. Valid Driver’s License required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.

Ability to understand and follow instructions.

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to work overtime when needed.

Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.

Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.

Knowledge of the planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass.

Skill in the use of grounds-keeping hand tools and equipment, in the operation of motorized and gas-operated equipment.
