Registered Nurse - Residential Treatment Full-time Behavioral Health RN – Southwood Residential Treatment Facility in Canonsburg. Shift: Full-time 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. (includes weekend rotation).

Southwood’s Residential Treatment in Canonsburg, PA offers a comprehensive program designed to meet the individualized needs of children and adolescents with severe emotional, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disabilities.

To address this need, Southwood Psychiatric Hospital has created an Intellectual Developmental Disability / Autism Spectrum Disorder (IDD/ASD) Residential Treatment Program. Located in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania, the program provides treatment for up to 44 males, ages 6–21, with a staff‑to‑child ratio of 1:4 to ensure thorough support throughout the treatment process.

Registered Nurse Essential Functions

Provide and coordinate care by assessing patients’ physical and behavioral health needs.

Develop and implement nursing care plans.

Maintain medical records and educate patients and families about physical and behavioral conditions.

Provide nursing care within the standards and scope of practice defined by the state Nurse Practice Act, facility policies, and protocols.

Ensure physicians’ orders are legible and properly transcribed.

Continuously assess patients’ status and document pertinent information.

Notify physicians of significant status changes, such as detox difficulties, medical emergencies, medication response changes, and related challenges.

Ensure initial nursing treatment plans are completed upon admission and tailored to assessed needs.

Demonstrate knowledge and utilization of universal precautions during direct patient care.

Accurately administer medications per ordered notes.

Document accurate counts of controlled substance administrations on required forms.

Complete admission and discharge processing efficiently and accurately as directed.

Maintain therapeutic rapport with patients by respecting boundaries, personal space, and providing direct attention in a rational detachment.

Coordinate unit activities as directed when necessary.

Communicate therapeutically and professionally with patients, visitors, co‑workers, and all inpatient treatment staff.

Education / Licensure / Experience / Skill Requirements

Graduate of an accredited nursing school.

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment or eligibility to practice in accordance with state requirements.

At least one year of nursing experience; previous psychiatric, mental, behavioral, or substance‑use nursing experience is a plus.

CPR and de‑escalation and restraint certification required (training provided upon hire).

First aid as required by state or facility regulations.
