Environmental Education Specialist (Salary) - Washington Crossing Historic Park THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is excited to announce an opportunity for a permanent Environmental Education Specialist position at Washington Crossing Historic Park. This role involves engaging in professional activities focused on the creation and delivery of environmental education and interpretive programs designed to enhance visitor understanding and appreciation of the natural world. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing educational content, leading programs, and facilitating activities that promote environmental stewardship within the park or at the Environmental Education Center. DESCRIPTION OF WORK Responsibilities include:

Develop, coordinate, and present educational and interpretive programs at Washington Crossing Historic Park.

Plan and deliver educational initiatives at local schools and various community venues.

Establish and nurture collaborative relationships with local and state conservation organizations, civic groups, educational institutions, and the general public.

Coordinate with Park Manager on program assignments and apply professional judgment to execute tasks effectively.

Ensure projects are reviewed by Park Management and meet quality and technical accuracy standards.

Facilitate educational and interpretive activities, including discovery learning sessions, audiovisual presentations, workshops for teachers and staff.

Support educational institutions, civic organizations, and public entities in creating and implementing environmental education programs and curriculum development.

Operate and maintain visitor service centers, resource libraries, and coordination of the Environmental Education Volunteer program.

Maintain collections reflecting the natural, historic, cultural, and archaeological significance of the area.

Assist in research and development of educational publications and exhibits, and oversee use, repair, and maintenance of equipment.

Create and present specialized activities tailored for park visitors to enhance their educational experience.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Full‑time employment. 37.5 hours per week.

Shift hours and days vary due to operational needs, with a 30‑minute lunch.

Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed.

Overtime and travel as operationally necessary.

No telework option.

Salary may be non‑negotiable in some cases.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

Bachelor's degree in environmental education, education, natural sciences, social sciences, or parks and recreation; or equivalent combination of experience and training.

Within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Willingness to work weekends and evenings.

Willingness to wear a prescribed uniform.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid driver’s license (must be active).

Meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.

Ability to perform essential job functions.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

Pass background investigation.

Compliance with Child Protective Services Law, including submission of required criminal history reports.

Completion of Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks at hire and every 5 years.
