It provides consultative and supportive services for curriculum development, innovative instructional strategies, assessment methods, and faculty development for Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and other JHHS and Johns Hopkins University entities. Responsibilities
Portray standardized patients for educational and assessment events. Standardize emotional and physical aspects of patient portrayals. Allow learners to practice physical health assessment techniques. Accurately evaluate learners and deliver written or verbal feedback. Optional Advanced Roles
In addition to standard duties, may serve as a Physical Examination Teaching Associate (PETA) or Genitourinary Teaching Associate (GUTA). PETA : Use body to instruct correct examination techniques (neurological, abdominal, head & neck, cardiovascular, pulmonary, musculoskeletal) and evaluate learner performance. GUTA
(female): Provide routine female breast and pelvic exam instruction, including communication skills. GUTA
(male): Provide routine male genital and rectal exam instruction, including communication skills. Key Skills & Abilities
Articulate communication. Provide constructive feedback. Observe and remember learner behavior for accurate evaluation. Interpersonal skills with clinical learners. For GUTA, possess intact relevant anatomy; implants acceptable. Technical Qualifications
Proficient with computer checklists. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Computer experience. Educational experience can substitute for required experience per JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications
One year experience as a Standardized Patient/PETA/GUTA, health professional, instructor, or actor. Experience with Zoom or similar teleconferencing platforms. Position Details
Title: Standardized Patient Salary: $15.00–$25.00 hourly (starting target $25.00). Type: Casual / On Call; schedule Monday–Sunday on an on-call basis; FLSA Non-Exempt. Location: School of Medicine Campus; Department: SOM Admin Sim Ctr General Administration.
