What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
Analyze medical records and perform data abstraction for cancer/tumor patients
Maintain and manage the Cancer Registry database in accordance with ACoS and Carilion Cancer Committee requirements
Organize and coordinate Medical Staff Oncology Conferences, ensuring compliance with ACoS guidelines
Generate registry‑related reports using analytical skills and statistical tools
Provide administrative support to the Carilion Cancer Committee and assist in community education and outreach activities
What is Required (Qualifications)
Associate's degree in medical terminology and human anatomy/physiology
Minimum of 2 years of experience in Cancer Registry, Health Information Management, or a related field
Certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
Thorough understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with accurate keyboarding skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
Completion of a formal education program for Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)
Experience with medical records database systems and coding
Familiarity with internal e‑mail systems for time management and communication
Proven team‑building and problem‑solving skills
