What we’re looking for: Indorama Ventures- Intermediate Chemicals is currently looking for an Environmental Specialist to join our team in Clear Lake, Texas. The Environmental Specialist ensures compliance with local, state & federal laws, codes and regulations across air, water, and waste programs. These programs involve many regulatory agencies and their subsidiary programs OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, SPCC, SWPP, RCRA, LDAR, etc.
What will be expected from you:
The position is located at the EO/EG Unit within the Celanese facility and primary responsibility is for this unit. However, there could be additional support of nearby Houston area Indorama facilities.
Help set standards and ensure full Environmental Compliance with relevant jurisdictional regulations and corporate guidelines.
Complete annual reporting: Annual Emissions Inventory, SARA Toxic Release Inventory, SARA Tier II, Greenhouse Gas Report, Annual CAP Emissions Report, Annual CAP Spill Report, Annual Waste Summary, etc.
Participate in monthly Community Advisory Panel meetings as needed.
Develop and maintain Environmental Training Programs (Air, Waste, Wastewater, Storm Water, SPCC).
Develop and manage the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program [audit/review monitoring data for compliance; ensure piping changes are added].
Manage Waste Management Program [waste profiles, waste inspections, etc.].
Prepare/submit monthly Environmental Metrics Reports for Corporate.
Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.
Participate in on‑call rotation.
Assurance that all department documentation is updated and available for auditing (internal/external).
Participate in training programs that further drive skill sets towards industry “Best Practice” for the EHS Department at the site.
Develop and maintain relationships with internal groups and external groups.
Ensure that the activities are carried out to comply with the integrated management system, as applicable (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality and responsible care requirements).
Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed. If applicable, ability to work overtime may be needed to ensure required staffing capacity to meet daily production objectives.
Assists other employees in accomplishments of Indorama company goals. Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company. Participates in and completes company required training programs.
What are we looking for in the ideal candidate:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or related field required.
Minimum of 3 years of Environmental experience required, 5–10 years of experience preferred.
Experience with the following: HON regulations, RCRA regulations, SPCC, general knowledge of Clean Air Act programs, Wastewater, Title V reporting, TRI reporting, air quality regulations, emission event reporting, corporate auditing, and database management.
Air permitting and/or compliance experience a plus.
Experience with TCEQ Regulatory Databases preferred.
Petrochemical Industry experience a plus.
Strong Excel, Word, and database skills.
Must have a level of proficiency with SAP, Internet, Email and Microsoft Office programs.
