Baylor College of Medicine
Summary
The postdoctoral fellow will conduct independent and collaborative research focused on the biochemical and biophysical characterization of proteins involved in protein homeostasis. Responsibilities include recombinant protein expression and purification, development and execution of enzyme and biophysical assays, and quantitative data analysis to support structure–function studies. The project will involve 3D structural analysis work using X‑ray crystallography and/or cryoEM. The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to manuscript preparation, presentation of results, and the overall scientific mission of the laboratory.
Job Duties
Analyze and interpret biochemical, biophysical, and enzymatic data generated from protein purification and functional assays, supporting structure–function studies using X‑ray crystallography and/or cryoEM.
Maintain the laboratory equipment and shared work areas, ensuring proper data management and adherence to established laboratory procedures.
Maintain compliance with institutional safety policies and keep the required documentation to support a safe and efficient research environment.
Assist and mentor junior researchers, including graduate students and undergraduate trainees, by providing guidance on experimental design, execution of biochemical, biophysical, and enzymatic assays, and interpretation of experimental data. The role includes troubleshooting experimental workflows, ensuring proper use of laboratory equipment, and promoting best practices in data analysis and documentation within the laboratory.
Minimum Qualifications
MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal candidate will have expertise in protein biochemistry, biophysics, or fluorescence-based enzymatic assays, with demonstrated productivity evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications.
Experience with quantitative data analysis, experimental troubleshooting, and training of laboratory personnel is preferred, as is prior experience in multidisciplinary research environments.
Familiarity with structural biology approaches, or an interest in training in X‑ray crystallography or cryoEM, is desirable.
Seniority Level Internship
Employment Type Full‑time
Job Function Research
Baylor College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/Equal Access Employer.
