Job Overview Assesses patients’ pulmonary status, develops plan of care in collaboration with the physician and nurses, and delivers respiratory care to patients. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments and medical errors.
Qualifications
Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Therapy
AA/AS degree preferred
NJ licensure as Respiratory Care Practitioner required
RRT Certification by NBRC
BLS required
Certifications in PALS and NRP to be obtained within the first twelve months of employment for all full and part time staff

Essential Functions
Adheres to documentation standards: Contributes to a comprehensive plan of care, which includes the patient and family, and is interdisciplinary.
Documents intervention in retrievable form consistent with plan of care/expected outcomes.
Contributes to a multidisciplinary teaching record as needed, assuring patient/family understanding of prescribed therapy.
Assumes responsibility for a reduction in length of stay through timely delivery of appropriate clinical intervention and delegates follow-up respiratory treatments to appropriate members of the care team.
Collaborates daily with a multidisciplinary team in development and progress of an overall plan of respiratory care for patients as indicated.
Collaborates with RN and reinforces a plan of care daily with the patient and family.
Evaluates treatment and orders/confirms appropriateness and initiates treatments of MDI, HFN, CPT, aerosol treatment.
Initiates an accurate pulmonary history and assessment of patients during initial as well as subsequent therapies.
Intubates in emergency/extubates per MD orders.
Manages transport of ventilated patient.
Participates in monitoring patient care outcomes as established by targets/goals or performance improvement within services.
Participates in the quality monitoring process to identify variances that increase length of stay.
Participates in the orientation of other associates new to service areas.
Performs techniques/procedures for processing ABGs.
Provides cardiac monitoring within the scope of practice.
Responds to CAC/performs life support measures.
Serves as preceptor during orientation of Respiratory Therapists new to the unit or central department.
Uses mentoring skills with team members to advance their knowledge base and clinical skills.
